Dame Emma Kirkby
Dame Emma Kirkby agreed to become our new President from January 2020. Dame Emma is, of course, one of the world's most famous and highly regarded sopranos, recognised particularly for her pure, crystalline voice, deployed with a minimum of vibrato. She was awarded a DBE in 2007, and in 2011 the Queen’s Medal for Music.
Her website very modestly says: "Amazed by all this, she is nevertheless glad of the recognition it implies for a way of music-making that values ensemble, clarity and stillness above volume and display; above all she is delighted to see a new generation of singers and players bringing their skills to the endeavour."
We feel honoured and very proud that Dame Emma has agreed to be our President and we look forward to a long and happy association with her.
