  • Edward Fox

    Guest Reader
We are delighted to welcome as our Guest Reader this year the actor Edward Fox - hopefully he will feel reasonably at home in the Speech Room as he is himself an Old Harrovian. He mentioned to us that as a pupil he remembers extremely well listening to Winston Churchill, another famous old-boy, on an occasion when he visited and addressed the school. Perhaps this was helpful when Edward played Churchill on stage at the Gielgud Theatre only a few years ago! In fact, Edward Fox is among the relatively small band of actors who are equally at home, and highly regarded, on both stage and film and he was awarded the OBE for his services to Drama in 2003. He has appeared in more than 70 films, his most well-known performances probably being his acclaimed portrayal of Edward Vlll in Edward and Mrs Simpson and the title role in Day of the Jackal. He also won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the British Academy Film Awards for his work on The Go-Between(1972) and as Lieutenant General Horrocks in A Bridge Too Far (1977). He is the elder brother of the actor James Fox and the uncle of Laurence Fox and two of his children are also well known in the acting field – son Freddie Fox and daughter Emilia Fox.
  • Elysian Brass

We are delighted once again to welcome Elysian Brass as our guests this evening. They are a quintet made up of recent graduates from music colleges across the UK, each of whom is forging a career in music, such as studying abroad, teaching and playing freelance. Three years they were so new that they didn't have a photograph to give us. Then two years ago they were just too popular to find the time to have one taken. Last year, we got a bit closer and managed to find one of their instruments But this year.......well, we've kind of given up but here again is a photo of their instruments. So, once again, please pay close attention to the band when they're playing 'cos you'll just have to remember what they look like! Elysian Brass comprises: Mathew Hampton - trumpet Ryan Linham - trumpet Emily Allen - French horn Jane Salmon - trombone Stephen Calo – tuba
